At CALACS Longueuil, our interventions aim to give survivors back the power over their entire lives and to reduce the impact of sexual assault through a vision "by and for" women.
CALACS' feminist intervention gives women the responsibility and ownership of their journey. As a result, they realize they have the power to protect themselves and make their own choices. We believe that each woman has all the strengths and abilities needed to work together to regain this personal power.
WHAT IS SEXUAL ABUSE
Sexual abuse is the use of physical or psychological power to dominate or harm someone. It is an act of domination aimed at subjugating a person's sexuality. Sexual violence can be linked to different forms of oppression such as sexism, racism and homophobia.
Sexual violence is a broad term that includes any action or attempted action of a sexual nature taken against another person without their consent or respect. This includes sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment and sexual cyber-violence. Everyone has the right to live in a place, public or private, free from sexual violence. Violating this right violates the dignity of others and is prohibited by law in Canada.
